The Eastern part of Kogi state shares boundaries with Anambra and Enugu states. This explains why the indigenous Igbo people of Kogi state are found majorly in the Eastern part. They have close proximity with the Igala people who occupy 90% of Kogi East.


Major Igbo-speaking communities in Kogi state

A small community in Igalamela/Odolu Local Government called Akpanya is an Igbo speaking community where everyone born and raised in the town speaks Igbo fluently.

Eke Avurugo in Ibaji Local government is a place where Igbo is spoken as first indigenous language and Igala as second.

Some small villages such as Ugwuebonyi, Ebokwe, Amaokwu, Ozara, Amaeke, Amankpo, Amauwani camp, Amadiefioha, Amaufulu, etc, all in Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State are Igbo-speaking communities.

Meanwhile in Ibaji Local government, Nwajala, Umuoye, Ubulie-Umueze area are all Igbos.

The Odolu community in Igalamela/Odolu local government area of Kogi state also speaks Igala as first language and the Nsukka Igbo dialect as their second language.
