Who is Asiwaju Asiru Idris? What Should you Know About Him?

Asiwaju Asiru Idris FCA was born in Isanlu, Yagba East LGA, Kogi State, on December 11, 1975. He is a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he bagged a Bsc in Accounting and graduated as one of the best students in his year group with a Second Class Upper Division in 2000.

Asiwaju obtained a Master’s Degree in Accounting from Kogi State University Ayingba in 2018.

He is a professional Chartered accountant, a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria and also fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation as well. He is also a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst.

Asiwaju has over 11 years’ experience in Accounting, Financial Management and Administration. Before his appointment in 2016 he was the Manager/ Branch Head in Zenith Bank Plc, Obajana Branch Kogi State Nigeria.

Asiwaju Asiru Idris was appointed Special Adviser on Finance Economy, Commerce and Investment for the Governor of Kogi State in January 2016 and later the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, where he served the state diligently from February 2016 to November 2019 under the APC led government.

During his time as the Commissioner, he spearheaded several financial reforms in turning the Kogi State economy around.

After a stellar performance over a period of four years and gaining the confidence of his Principal, the then Governor of the state, Yahaya Bello. He was reappointed as Commissioner of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning in January 2020 a position he held till date.

He has spent the last 8 years in the public sector as a member of the cabinet to the State Government saddle with the responsibility to steer the Economic affairs of Kogi State, a very critical sector of the State.

Asiwaju was appointed a member of the Ajaokuta Presidential Project Implementation Team by the Federal Government in May 2020 after the recommendation of his boss Governor Yahaya Bello.

He also served as the Alternate Chairman of the Kogi State Economic Management Team and also Chaired the Forum of Commissioners of finance of Nigeria and Kogi State Forum of Commissioners at different times.

In September 2020 Asiwaju Asiru Idris was appointed as the Interim Chairman Kogi State Internal Revenue services. The committee was mandated to ensure adequate control, improve the Internally Generated Revenue and put in place an effective and efficient service delivery.

He also heads numerous Boards and Committees including a number of World Bank Assisted Developmental Programs Committee.

Asiwaju possesses leadership qualities that has made him outstanding, dependable in the discharge of his duties. He is committed, dedicated, result-driven and diplomatic leader and has shown absolute transparency, Prudency, Accountability and leadership skills during his role as the Commissioner of Finance Kogi State.

In 2024, Asiwaju was re-appointed at the state commissioner for Finance, Budget, and planning by the new governor of the State, Alhaji Usman Ododo
